Preschool

Our Preschool program is truly the child’s orientation into academic learning. The Preschool program will focus on the alphabet and its sounds. Children learn a new letter every week, exploring each letter with art, games, songs and a weekly theme.

The Preschool program continues a child’s journey toward independence in a safe and caring environment with teachers committed to lovingly, but firmly guiding them. Teachers continue to reinforce appropriate behavior in their interactions with others, encouraging the use of words to solve a problem, finding an adult for assistance and making good choices. The children are now expected to hang up their own backpack and jackets, removing their snack from their bags and giving their Important Information folders to their teachers.

The daily routine starts with a morning meeting, sharing the activities for the day, talking about weather, the calendar and theme for the week. The mornings are spent singing songs, reading books, doing arts and crafts and having a snack in the classroom. On some days there is a “Community Time” when the Playgroup children come “play” with the Preschoolers. The children go to Music/God is Good Time and Move It classes each week with special teachers. They will also go on the playground every day weather permitting.

There are also many special events throughout the year including a petting zoo with pony rides, Henrico County Fire Safety Program with a chance to climb aboard a real fire truck, Dr. Suess week with mystery readers, Pajama Day, a Leprechaun Hunt and Pumpkin Party!  Age appropropriate field trips are also planned for the Preschool children when that activity supports a particular theme.

Our children learn to say grace at snack time and lunch. They learn Bible songs and stories as they apply to the weekly lesson and during holidays.

Teachers encourage parental involvement whenever possible. There are many opportunities to volunteer, whether it be in the classroom or at events.
