In Pre-K, our aim is to help your child develop a love of learning and a strong educational foundation for the future.

Each week we have a theme and a new “letter of the week”. In this program, the kids will be learning letter formation, letter/sound association, numbers, name recognition, and how to print their names. To help develop fine motor skills we practice cutting, dot-to-dot activities, and mazes. The students will also be working on social skills such as: manners, taking turns, respect for self and others, how to behave in a group, and having fun.

The Pre-K classes have a weekly session with Mrs. Parent in the MoveIt! program, which offers weekly creative movement and exercise. Music and God is Good Time with Mrs Gill is also weekly. We will be going to Dumbarton Library for story one time a month.

This program does many field trips throughout the year including but not limited to St Mary’s Teddy Bear Clinic, Hanover Vegetable Farm for the Pumpkin Patch, Lamb’s Basket Food Pantry, Science Museum of Virginia, Maymont Nature Center, Fire Station and Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

We are fortunate to have many programs come to the school as well: Lambeth Petting Zoo for Farm Day, Animals Unlimited for Zoo Week and Henrico County Fire Department for Fire Safety Week.

The Pre-K play a large role in our Christmas and End of the Year programs. Our children learn to say grace at snack time and lunch. They learn Bible songs and stories as they apply to the weekly lesson and during holidays.

We do PALS testing twice a year to identify the students’ strengths and weaknesses. With this test, we are able to measure the children’s Kindergarten readiness and discuss the results with parents.
